Calathea Peacock (Calathea makoyana) is a stunning tropical houseplant known for its striking, feather-like foliage. Each leaf showcases a beautiful pattern of deep green and light cream markings, reminiscent of a peacock’s tail feathers—hence the name. The undersides of the leaves reveal a rich purple hue, creating a vivid contrast that adds elegance to any indoor space.

This low-light tolerant plant thrives in bright, indirect light and high humidity, making it a perfect choice for bathrooms, living rooms, or shaded corners. With proper care, your Calathea Peacock will bring lush, living art into your home.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light

  • Water: Keep soil evenly moist; avoid letting it dry out

  • Humidity: Prefers higher humidity levels

  • Pet Friendly: Non-toxic to cats and dogs

1. Light
Calathea Peacock prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves and fade their patterns, so place it near a north- or east-facing window, or use sheer curtains to filter the light. It can also tolerate lower-light conditions, making it perfect for shaded corners.
2. Water
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry. Calatheas are sensitive to tap water chemicals—use filtered, rain, or distilled water if possible. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water to prevent root rot.
3. Humidity
High humidity is key! Aim for 60% or higher. You can boost humidity by:
. Misting the leaves regularly
. Using a humidifier
. Placing the pot on a tray of pebbles and water
. Dry air can cause leaf curling or crispy edges.
4. Temperature
This tropical beauty thrives in temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C). Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes—keep it away from vents, open windows, and heaters.
5. Soil
Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged. A blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works wonderfully.
6. Fertilizer
Feed your Calathea Peacock with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when growth slows down.
